How a Leading Asian Fast Food Brand Increased Its App Store Ratings

A leading Filipino fast food brand got competitive when it comes to app ratings. Understanding that app ratings drive discovery and downloads, the brand tasked Tillster with ensuring its app rating is the same as or higher than its largest competitor in the App Store and Google Play Store.

Tillster, after just launching the brand’s mobile ordering and delivery app, understood the challenge here: high ratings for a brand-new mobile application can be hard to come by.

With this in mind, Tillster set out on its efforts to drive app ratings with an in-app prompt served directly to the users who implicitly show that they like using the app. And while Tillster typically opts to initiate these kinds of processes several months after the app launches, they built a proprietary data set that inferred a customer’s level of satisfaction with the app to determine if they would give it a favorable rating.

In identifying who the satisfied customers were, Tillster looked at the number of orders placed over time, the frequency at which the orders were placed, and the recency of the orders. This high-volume user segment was sent an in-app message driving them to the Google Play Store to submit an app rating for Android or via invitation within the app itself for iOS.

And, as evidenced by significant growth in app ratings, the App Rating Prompt was a success. In fact, the app achieved a 4.6-star rating in the App Store, and a 4.2-star rating in the Google Play Store, for a staggering two-star improvement in only six weeks. Similarly, during this same period, the total number of reviews increased more than 1000%, from 234 to 2658.

Most notably, the app remains on par or higher in rating than its primary competitor since its launch.
